WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BY KATHY MORRIS

Master of Fine Arts, Cornell University 1976

Photographing Weddings in the Finger Lakes Area of Upstate New York Since 1986

I love to photograph all types of weddings, from the traditional to the innovative, the secular to religious. My style as a wedding photographer has been shaped by many influences. The most important are my work as a visual artist, a photojournalist, portrait photographer, and yoga teacher:

  • VISUAL ARTIST
A lifetime of experience in the arts has given me a well-trained eye for the light, color, detail, and compositional possibilities of your event. Over the years, my photography, painting, and mixed media work has been widely exhibited, and recognized through numerous grants and awards.

  • PHOTOJOURNALIST
My newspaper work has sharpened my sense of timing and visual narrative, as well as my interest in people and places. In my view as a wedding photographer, a truthful image is a more valuable and long-lasting document than one that has been posed or manipulated by the photographer.

  • PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHER
Since 1987, portraits—from families and children to rock groups, from theatrical head shots to high school yearbook photos—have been my trademark. The many aspects of running a portrait studio—from putting a camera-shy subject at ease to lighting the human face—all come into play when I’m photographing your wedding.

  • YOGA TEACHER
As an Iyengar yoga teacher, I’ve learned patience, stamina, and concentration— essential personal qualities in a wedding photographer. The flexibility to maneuver in tight spaces also comes in handy!

MY PROCESS

I like to work with the natural flow of the day, capturing spontaneous, unposed moments. My role is to document, not to direct, except during the formal group portraits where a little direction makes things go quickly and smoothly.

I’m especially fascinated by the subtle, closeup, or unusual details that tell a story of their own.

Over the years, many couples have expressed their appreciation for my low profile presence. You and your guests will find yourselves able to relax and enjoy the event, while my assistant and I quietly move about recording this special time in your lives.

ASSISTANTS

With weddings of more than 50 guests, I work with an assistant, also a professional photographer. We work as a team, helping to make your day go smoothly, and to maximize coverage of events as they unfold.

EQUIPMENT

I use Nikon digital cameras and flashes, and Macintosh computers.

PRICING

Wedding packages can include:

  • The services of the principal photographer, Kathy Morris, plus one assistant, for 3-8 hours
  • CDs: lower resolution suitable for emailing and web posting, or higher resolution suitable for slide shows and reprints
  • Proof albums: simple design, durable, easy to use, hold 4x6-inch prints. Prints are numbered and sequenced for convenient reprint ordering, and are coordinated with the CDs.

Prices range from $1000-$2000 per package, depending on number of hours, and number of CDs and/or prints. The specific costs for your event are usually established during the studio appointment. Non-standard packages are also available.

A deposit and signed contract are required in order to reserve the photographer for that date.

The balance is due and payable upon receipt of prints/CDs. Mailing of materials includes fees for shipping and handling and insurance.

Engagement photos are available, at the studio or on location, and are usually a separate financial arrangement.

Reprints are also a separate arrangement from the actual wedding. There is no obligation to buy a set number or size of reprints. (Note: family members and friends are welcome to contact the studio directly to order reprints from the wedding.)

PAPERWORK

Contract

  • My contract and rate sheet are written in plain language. A deposit along with the signing of the contract holds your date and protects all of us, and there are no hidden charges and no "add-ons" unless you approve them.
  • I provide itemized statements and invoices of all transactions.

Checklist

  • I supply a detailed checklist for requested shots. This checklist helps me better understand your priorities and use my time effectively... freeing you to enjoy your day to the fullest.
