About the photographer:
My photographic style is shaped by a number of influences, including
professional work as a visual artist, a photojournalist, a studio
photographer, and a yoga teacher. Being a visual artist has given me a
trained eye for light, color, detail, and composition. Over the years,
my artwork has been widely exhibited, and recognized through numerous
grants and awards. My work as a photographer for local media has
sharpened my sense of timing and visual narrative, as well as my love of
the truthful image.
In addition, the many aspects of running a portrait studio, including
the intense focus on the human face, and the study of lighting, have
shaped my approach, as well. Finally, teaching yoga classes for the last
nine years has been invaluable in my photographic career. Among other
things, the study of yoga has taught me patience, stamina, and
concentration--and given me the necessary flexibility to maneuver in
tight spaces!
In general, I avoid any overt interference with the events of the
wedding. My role is to document, not to direct (except during the formal
group portraits where a little firm direction makes things go quickly
and smoothly.) I also make it a point to work with assistants who share
this view.
Some of my particular interests, in terms of wedding photography, include
portraying children, culturally diverse groups,non-traditional weddings,
and unusual details. I especially love to work in new places, including
private homes.
Over the years, many couples have expressed their appreciation for my
low profile presence. They and their guests find themselves able to
relax and enjoy the event, without being constantly posed or interrupted.
This sense of ease and joy pervases the images and is a hallmark of my
work.
My contract is written in plain language. There are no hidden charges or
"add-ons" and I provide an itemized record of all transactions, as well
as a photo checklist for your convenience.
In terms of equipment, I use Nikon cameras and shoot Kodak film (Portra,
T-Max and Tri-X.)
